5 Summer Beauty Tips & Product Recommendations for Oily Skin

Summer time has officially arrived and if you are living in a tropical country like here in the Philippines, you're pretty much accustomed to the scorching heat especially during this time of the year. I think it's especially hard for us oily-skinned girls to maintain our makeup during this time and it's probably best not to wear any at all but I'm here to give you a couple of tips in achieving an oil-free face this summer regardless if you prefer to go bare-faced or not.

1. Go easy on the products you use
When it comes to your skincare and makeup during summer, the lighter, the better! Keep your skincare routine minimal and lightweight. Since you're oily, you don't really need that extra layer of moisturizing cream so instead of using a night cream, go for an oil-free gel moisturizer. This also applies to your makeup, I personally prefer to just use a tinted moisturizer and concealer for my base instead of a foundation. You may also use a cc cream or bb cream and use a concealer only on areas where needed. Caking on the makeup can lead to clogged pores which will then lead to pimples. It's great to use dual purpose products too like my favorite Nars Radiant Tinted Moisturizer which already has spf35!

Products:

(L-R) Clinique Moisturizing Gel, Clinique Counters; Holika Holika Aloe Vera Gel, Dara Beauty Market; Nars Radiant Tinted Moisturizer, Nars Counters

2. Use a clay mask 1-2 times a week
Clay masks are wonderful for absorbing excess sebum from the face. Try to add one in your weekly routine either once or twice a week. There are a lot of different clay masks in the market but what I've been using is Innisfree's super volcanic pore clay mask and it also helps minimize the pores and exfoliate the skin.

3. Oil blotting sheets are your bestfriend
Always keep oil blotting sheets with you, they will come in handy when your face starts to grease up. In the summer I usually try to avoid applying powder and instead just use an oil blotting sheet. To me it's the best way to remove oil.

4. Avoid eating oily food
Eating oily food can contribute to your face's oil production, making it more prone to acne. Ditching oily food will not only do your skin a huge favor, it will also help keep your body summer-ready 😉 Substitute oily food with vitamin A-rich food such as sweet potato, spinach, broccoli, squash, mango, and cantaloupe melon. Vitamin A is good for acne-prone and oily skin types and it reduces inflammation. If you want to know more about which vitamins and food are good for oily skin, check this article out.

5. Use a refreshing facial mist
I personally love facial mists! They not only hydrate your skin, but they also give a refreshing feel which is perfect during the summer (and any time, really). There is a huge variety of mists in the market but choose one that also has beneficial ingredients for your skin. I am currently using Gyoolpy Tea fresh water which I got from an Althea box. It has citrus extract, aloe, and witch hazel leaf extract which are all great for oily and sensitive skin. Facial mists can be used before and after makeup. I always keep one in my bag to refresh my skin throughout the day.

  2. Very nice summer tips. Summers are hot, using sunscreen with SPF 50 would help protect our skin and protect from Sun's UV radiation.
