The Best & Worst Nars Products

by - Wednesday, February 22, 2017

Nars is probably one of my most favorite makeup brands ever because I feel like I relate a lot to its aesthetic which I would like to describe as minimalist, understated, clean, and classic which translates to their packaging and products. Today I looked at my collection and realized I owned a lot of Nars products which brings me to this list of the best and the worst products of Nars in my opinion. I have to say though, I wouldn't say I hate the products in the 'worst' list but rather they are the products that didn't really impress me as much as the other ones that I loved. Also worth considering, when it comes to high end brands, my standards are pretty high since they do come with a hefty price tag so I believe it's right to expect only the best. By the way, I apologize that some of the products here look dirty 😅 obviously they are well used.

THE BEST

The Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer is my go-to everyday base product. It is a tinted moisturizer so it doesn't give a lot of coverage but it gives the most natural, dewy finish on the skin which makes it the perfect "your skin but better" product. What's great about this is that aside from being your face makeup, it acts as a sunblock and moisturizer as well. If there's only one thing from Nars that I would recommend you to invest on, it's definitely this one. If you need or prefer more coverage, however, I wouldn't recommend this to you. I usually set this with my RCMA no color powder or when I feel like I need a tad bit more coverage, I apply a light dusting of a powder foundation on top. Go give this a try at a Nars counter, they will be more than happy to help you test it out on your skin.

2. Nars Pro-Prime Pore Refining Primer

I got this quite recently but I've been reaching for this so much more than my other primers. Primers have different purposes but basically you apply them right before your makeup and after your skincare usually to make application of your foundation better. The Nars Pro-Prime Pore Refining Primer in particular smoothens out the texture of my skin and covers my pores while at the same time I feel like it gives moisture without being oily. It honestly feels like a moisturizer on the skin and doesn't have a silicone-y feel which is typical to a lot of face primers. What I've also noticed with this product is it makes my foundation go on a lot smoother and it does a great job creating a veil on areas with texture. I use this in conjunction with my Becca Ever Matte primer and they work beautifully on the skin. The only thing I don't like about this is its scent, it's not really strong but the very first time I used it I thought there was alcohol in it. Don't let that scare you though, because the scent goes away quickly when you apply it on the face.

3. Nars Laguna Bronzer

Please don't mind the very very dirty packaging 😅 I really hate these type of packaging from Nars because they get so dirty easily and become quite sticky (it's disgusting I know) but over time, I've learned to overlook it. I've had this product for quite a long time now and I've just recently gotten back to using it and I almost forgot how much I loved it. The color is quite light to be honest but I like it because I can control my application better and it looks so natural on the skin. From the swatch you can see that it has some shimmer but it doesn't really show up on my skin when I apply it. I use this on the hollows of my cheekbones, on the temples of my head, and on my forehead and it gives back some warmth to my skin. I don't really contour a lot so I've been preferring to bronze up my face instead. This is definitely one of the hyped products in the beauty community that is worth its popularity.

3. Nars Pure Matte Lipstick in Terre de Feu and Tonkin

I love these shades so much! Terre de Feu is a beautiful deep wine red color while Tonkin is a neutral brown pink color. Out of the two shades, I've been using Tonkin a lot more because it's such a perfect everyday shade and you can pair it with practically any makeup look. Ever since I got Tonkin, it's been inside my bag at all times and it's slowly becoming my holy grail lipstick. Formula wise, these lipsticks are quite easy to apply and they do dry down matte on the lips although not completely which I really like. They aren't drying at all and feel quite more comfortable than Mac lipsticks. The only thing I don't like about these is that they are so tiny! You won't get a lot of product with these but you know what? I think they are worth it. The pure matte lipsticks are quite underrated in my opinion. You should give these a try, they have a huge color range for their pure matte lipstick line so I'm sure you'll find a color that you like.

Here's how it looks on my skin after approx. 6 hours
This was a recent purchase but I have to say, it's become my favorite high end foundation! The Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation claims to have a 16 hour wear and although I haven't worn it for that many hours, I have noticed that this does last a full day and it sets so beautifully on my skin throughout the day. I have it in the shade Punjab and it's the perfect color match for me. I have so many reasons why I love this product but the best thing in my opinion is that it has skincare benefits. According to their website, it has what they call an "Even Tone Technology" which neutralizes redness and dullness to reduce the appearance of discoloration over time and I've noticed immediately upon application that it evens out my skin tone and removes the redness on my nose. I also love that this product really feels weightless! It has a medium to full coverage but it feels and looks so much like skin! According to Nars, this product is best applied with your hands which I do and it glides on easily to my skin especially when I use my Nars primer beforehand. It does set quickly so it's suggested that you work in sections on your face. Overall, this is such a good Nars product that is totally worth the splurge.

THE WORST
1. Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in the shades Honey and Biscuit
I know this might come as a shock to most of you but I didn't really find the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer to be that amazing. Out of all the Nars products, I think this is the most infamous out of all and you can read reviews and they all claim how amazing this is but honestly, it wasn't that great for me. First of all, one tube comes with so little product (6ml) that it ran out so fast on me. Second, I didn't find the coverage to be that great but I do find it natural which is fine but I prefer my concealer to be high coverage since it's main purpose is to conceal blemishes or dark under eyes. Don't get me wrong, this product is by no means a bad product, I'm just saying that it's not for me. I know people who love this product and it works great for them but for some reason I didn't really fall in love with this. The shade Honey is just right for me but I'm already out of it so I'm actually considering to give it another chance. Let's see but for now, I have other concealers I love that are way less expensive than this one.

2.  Nars Orgasm Blush

Yet another cult favorite, the Nars Orgasm Blush didn't quite make the cut for me. To be honest, the shade is beautiful but I just love a lot of other blushes more than this one. It does give a nice sheen to the cheeks but I think there are so many other better blushes out there with a cheaper price tag. Again, this might work for a lot of people but it didn't for me. I'm just trying to use this all up but I won't be repurchasing it. I do, however, want to try Nars' other blushes particularly Amore which turned nicely on my skin the last time I tried it.

3. Nars Dual-Intensity Blush in Liberation

Nars Dual-Intensity Blush in Liberation Swatch
This product is limited edition I believe and the cool thing about this is you can use it both wet and dry but I was told it would be more pigmented to use it wet so that's what I usually do. I don't really have much of a problem with these shades but the thing is, they disappear completely on my skin so fast! Also, the peach shade doesn't really show up much even on first application but the bronze shade is okay. I was just pretty disappointed in this product. I think I would get more use out of it this summer but for my regular makeup, I tend to overlook this one. Definitely not worth the money. Again, this product isn't terrible but there are far more better blushes in the market you can get for a cheaper price.
